My mom had this list of every skate/sneaker shop on Oahu. She used to take me all around the island in search of dunks. Sometimes I would find a pair I liked but I would always end up getting a shop tee. We would check them off the list one by one and hit the next one.
I remember getting 2 of the FYI logo tees at Ward. One white, one red. To me this logo defined that simple OG/staple/shop logo tee, which was not an outrageous rectangle graphic on the front that stuck to your chest from the adhesive during screen printing. Yet a simple left chest, and bigger on the back design. And I would take care of those until my mom would accidently put my laundry in the dryer.
Getting to flip and design this logo with a brand of my own is kinda like I believe it but I don't at the same time. From my mom buying me tees to now designing a collaboration with them, a real full circle moment. I know my 14-year-old self is losin his shit rn, which is the best part of all of this. TU~
